Mr. Herrera started his career in engineering with Rockwell and Boeing, where he became part of an elite team designing structural/mechanical flight control systems. He then began his career as an attorney specializing in Intellectual Property Law.
Mr. Herrera has over twenty years of intellectual property legal experience with a wide range of international and global experience in all IP matters with top tier Global Fortune 500 Companies. He had served as Chairman of the Board for an IP Holding Company in Switzerland, reducing tax liability and maximizing efficiency in managing IP assets through strategic global protection and enforcement of IP rights.
Mr. Herrera has received many outstanding leadership achievement awards in his role as an Engineer and Lawyer. He has been actively involved in NSHMBA (National Society of Hispanic MBAs) activities, the NHCC (National Hispanic Corporate Counsel) Corporate Executive Development Program in partnership with SMU (Southern Methodist University) Cox Executive Education. Mr. Herrera has also served as mentor and advisor to many Senior IP Counsel(s), high-level Managers and Directors of Fortune 100 Companies.
While serving in his previous role as Chief IP Counsel at General Motors, Mr. Herrera had been nominated in 2015 as a finalist in the General Counsel of the Year award for the over $1 Billion – public company category. Mr. Herrera has supported various innovation engineering and marketing groups (located in the U.S., Europe, Middle East, Asia and Australia) that developed and implemented new and improved products/processes for global markets.
Mr. Herrera earned a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a law degree from the University of Toledo.
